Calla Magic

This was such a super fun painting to make. I loved creating the exacting botanical part along with a background that's totally abstract! I painted 3 different layers of background, and worked with a variety of materials, one on top of the other, insuring that some part of each layer would "surface." And, it worked! Therein lies the reason for
the title "Calla Magic!" This is certainly one of my favorites. I hope you like it too!

Summer Delight

Another fine summer morning here in Caspar. The white iris are blooming and boy oh boy does that ever make my heart sing, given the penchant I have for ALL white flowers. I don't know what it is about them that just makes me want to run to my studio and grab onto paper and paintbrush. I love the strong contrast in this particular painting between the flower and the ink background. The flower looks to me like it should be wearing a wedding dress, since it's definitely the bride!

Swaying in the Breeze

With summer on it's way the Calla's are beginning to slow down. I love painting them and will just keep going with it until I've had my fill. However, I doubt that will ever happen! Here's another combination of the central subject being painted in watercolor with acrylic inks creating the background. I love that combo. It just makes magic for me!
