Kissing the Light

More fun bright flowers. It's always interesting to see how easy it is to get onto a particular painting jag. This week it seems to be sunny flower bouquets. Why not I say. With winter days, and crazy weather, it makes me happy to paint flowers. I hope they make you happy to.

Pick of the Day

Showy flowers for a winter day. A fun painting for sure. Loved playing around with "swirly" colors and seeing what I could make of them. The main flower in this painting definitely has swirls!

Bouquet of Happiness

With all the holiday hub bub going on, I
just had to get out to my studio to paint something free and a bit wild! I was so excited when I finished this latest piece. For me, it embodies what painting from your heart and soul is all about. This piece has a sense of freedom that I would like to have in every one of my paintings. But, oh well, that's not always possible. When it happens though, it sure is a fantastic feeling. Happy holidays one and all.

Fanciful Flowers

I felt like painting a big bouquet today. So much fun! I like this particular collection of flowers, fruit and vase. This combination, when completed on canvas, always makes me feel like there's some special event about to take place. I love painting various joyful still lifes. I always find the process quite fun and interesting. I enjoyed doing the collage, then painting over parts of it, thus creating wonderful textures.
It always amazes me how many ways there are to create a painting! Each day I learn something new.

Tropical Glow

After all the specific and exacting flower close-ups I've been creating over the past few months, I decided it was time to let loose and paint something liberating and unrestrained. I realized the instant I began this piece how much I miss the spontanaiety of painting like this. But, I still love the precision and definition of the more botanical flower paintings I usually paint in watercolor. How lucky am I to be an artist and get to choose whatever I feel like painting any time I want! Isn't that what being a painter is all about? What fun it always is to create something new and different.

Luminous One

I decided it was time to paint more bright and cheery Sunflowers. Another flower that peps up these short winter days. I love the colors in this painting.
My husband, Glenn, said it looked like the flower was gazing into the sunset.
Maybe it is? Whatever you want it to be works for me as long as it brings warmth into your world.

Above It All

 Daisy close-up #5! I'm so excited to
continue painting these fun, playful flowers. Each one has their own unique personality. After I finished this one, I realized it looked like it was coming up out of the ocean! So, therein lies the title "Above It All." I never have a clue about how these paintings will evolve. I really try my hardest to just let the background inks work for themselves and do their magic. I love acrylic inks. The colors are amazing. I think I'll just have to keep making more daisies for a while!! Hope you're enjoying them.

Ruffled Feathers

I'm so happy to have finished daisy close-up #4. With all that there is to do around the holidays, it's a miracle to actually be able to stay focused on completing another painting. I'm totally excited about my daisy series. I plan to continue on with creating more of them. So fun and joyful! Great memories of summer for sure.

Fancy Dancer

Daisy close-up #3. I'm on a roll with painting daisies right now. Given winter's onset, I can't help but feel that the bright, liveliness of daisies, helps to make the sunshine peek through the frequent showers. It just makes me feel happy to be able to paint these lovely, glowing white flowers. A reminder that Spring will soon be on it's way.

Glow From Within

http://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/sunshine-taylor-2674
Of course, as always, I'm inspired to paint one more Calla. I decided I wanted to try using totally different colors in the background than I used in the Calla itself. I normally would use some of each of the same color in the background and in the main subject so as to create a sense of cohesiveness. But, what the heck. It's always fun to try something new. I'm pretty tickled with the outcome. Hope you like it too...

Having just returned from an incredible
Fall get away to mingle with the blazing colors of New England, I'm now ready to get back to work. Before I left home I knew I wanted to paint a series of daisy close-ups when I returned. So, here's the first of who knows how many will appear! Hope it brings a smile to your soul.

Sunflower Joy

My husband, Glenn and I, recently returned from a wonderful vacation in Oregon, where we had a chance to visit family and friends. It was such a delightful respite given the extremely warm weather, combined with many inviting lakes, streams, and swimming pools.
Living here on the Mendocino Coast, it's rare to get a warm enough Summer day to even want to go swimming! Another great surprise was seeing so many lively, bright sunflowers. Some of the most beautiful ones lived in the Community Garden in Springfield. I took a ton of photos knowing I wouldn't have time to paint while I was there. Now that I'm home I've gotten busy creating sunflower paintings and hope to continue along this trend for awhile. They're so much fun to play around with given their whimsical character. Hope you like them!

Afterglow

My daily inspiration living here on the Mendocino Coast is the ocean, in all it's ever-changing glory.
What good fortune I've had getting to live in these magnificent surroundings for such a long time. I hope this painting brings you the sense of magic and splendor that you can always find here in northern California.

"Red Skies At Night....."

The glowing light of sunset brings warmth to everything in it's path. I love settling into the evening's shimmer, enjoying it's beauty, and feasting on the bountiful gifts of the planet. I don't think there's anything that could make me feel more blessed. I hope you too are stirred by this primordial moment.

Tumultuous Seas

Another magnificent, blustery day on the Mendocino Coast. I captured the giant wave in this painting as it was crashing far out at sea, smashing relentlessly against the rocks. What tremendous power the ocean delivers. I'm sure glad I was on the land, and not out on a boat this particular day!

Spring Sweethearts

New relationships and blossoming love spurred this painting on. Because my husband and I are avid swing dancers and also instructors,we get  the pleasure
of seeing so many people meeting in dance classes and falling in love. It's an awesome way to connect with someone. From the very get-go, you have something in common---wanting to learn to partner dance.
I love the joyful, happy energy of this piece. It always makes me smile. Sure hope it makes you smile too.

Mendocino Bay

This painting was created where Big River and Mendocino Bay unite. The variety of colors, moods, and intensity
this scene can take on is truly mind-boggling. Each day totally different than the next. I painted this a few days after a storm where the muddy tones of the water had once again returned to their  glowing blues and greens. At the same time the waves retained their large, storm-like quality. If you haven't visited here, I hope this painting inspires you to do so.

Happy Campers

So, by now you know my passionate addiction for painting wild, bold flowers. Especially white ones..... It's so exciting and endlessly fascinating to try and capture their vibrant energy with paint and brush, and whatever else I have handy at the time. This painting is one of my all time favorites. The flower is set free in this piece. That's how I'd like to feel all the time! Luckily enough, most of the time I do. I hope this painting gives you that same sense of letting go and being in the moment. I'm convinced the world would be a much happier place if we could all live by that philosophy. Smiling Rocks!

Oh Happy Day

Daisies are stealing the show around here. I loved doing this painting. The daisies live all around my studio so I see them all the time. I figured it was time to create another tribute to their beauty and frivolity. For certain one of the liveliest flowers of all.

Venice Canal

Revisiting Venice, Italy, by painting one of the gondola's whose home was on the canal, right outside the window of the Hotel Dalla Mora where we spent several glorious days. There's no way of describing Venice that can do it justice. One has to see it to believe it. Such a beautiful, fairy tale place on the planet. Too good to be true. Can't wait to go back.... In the mean time, I'll just have to keep making paintings of it and pretend that I'm there!

Summer Blend

Summer flowers and picnics go hand in hand.
Painting this brought such joy, and an overwhelming sense of good-fortune and gratitude, for the amazing bounty which surrounds my life. Once again, given how much I love white flowers, I made this one the center piece of my painting. I like how the combination of items, and colors, create a summery feeling. It's just what I was hoping for! Harmony all around....
